First things first, London is ridiculously expensive.  So much so that I will probably repeat it ad nauseum and start to make people think that it's not affordable.  It probably is OK if you take it easy on the attractions and food but why go to London if you can't see them all.  Some places, like Winchester Abbey and London Tower, you just need to visit to appreciate what Londoners have been able to do over the Centuries.  And that is where we begin this blog.  London is full of famous buildings and monuments of famous people that it is hard to know where to start, but that it the fun bit of it all, you just walk around and bump into something that you have heard about and it makes you want to explore it.  Audrey and I had a bit of a game where we would try and spot all the Monopoly streets or locations.  We didn't set out to find them but because they are all in the main, center part of London, we came across pretty much all of them.
We like to walk in cities when we get to them.  We have done it in Paris and Tokyo and we found that things weren't that far from each other.  London on the other hand seemed to take longer to get to places, it is really spread out along the Thames.  I suppose centuries of occupation can do that.  As well as being an important City, at some points in time THE most important City in the World, it attracts all sort of people and developed it's own culture and the areas of London reflex this.  So many famous people have lived in London throughout the ages that you just can't list them all here.  There is only one reason for this, it just attracts people to it.
Audrey and I, with Alan Cross, went to see "Billy Elliott, the Musical" because when you are in London you just have to see a play, this is where they all start.  We also caught up with some of the people from the African trip, a dinner at a wonderful Italian restaurant (it cost a lot).  We froze and had to shop for warm clothing, we ate fish and chips at a Pub, we caught the Tube, we got lost at one point, we saw the 'changing of the guard', we visited St Paul's Cathedral, we basically did all we could 'London'.  But 5 days just isn't enough to do it all and we had to sacrifice some places; Lord's and Windsor Castle where 2 that we missed.  However I am sure that we will be back in London at some point and we can visit the stuff we missed then.
At the end of the day it was good to see buildings after 56 days in Africa, and sleep in a comfortable bed, but by god its expensive !!!

PS.  We bought the Go London card but got no where near the money back.  All the places were too far apart, opened late and closed early to really get value for money.  And because we had it we felt like we needed to rush around and use it as much as possible and not sit back and enjoy what you are seeing it front of you.  My advise is not to buy it.
