Starting early on the Tuesday morning, we only got 15 minutes into the trip before I'd realised that I couldn't find the credit card, so back we went.
Take 2.
Starting just a little later than early, we took off, car loaded with camping gear and clothes, heading towards Cannes, the start of The Napoleon Route.  This drive is named after a famous French leader, Napoleon (you may have heard of him) and his route back to Paris to reclaim the Throne from Loius XVIII.  Along the way, Napoleon stopped at all the Bell Towers at all the Villages to give a speech and rally support for his efforts.  As part of our drive we stopped to take photo's of all these Towers.  When there was a choice to be had, we just photographs the oldest looking one I assumed that it was correct !!  It is a drive that Bikers love, twisty, turny and cut into cliff faces in some points.  Car drivers get a good feel of the turns aswell but with everything to look at you need to concentrate a lot on the the road otherwise you just head straight over the edge.
Near the start you come across a sign that says "Verdun Gorges".  You should take it.  The Verdun Gorges is Europes version of the Grand Canyon.  With the formation of The Alps and of course the Verdun River, you are left with a Gorge that is 550m deep in parts.  The road hugs the top of the vertiginous drop, so steep that you can't even see the river that is straight below you,  and so narrow that everytime you come across another car, you pray that there is enough room to pass.  Once again the camera got a work out.
Our first nights camping was on the banks of Lac de Sainte-Croix after negotitating one halve of the Gorge.  The next morning was an early start because we wanted to complete the rest of the Gorge drive without encountering other Tourist; we didn't expect to be stopped by sheep!!  The farmer apolagized but for me it was interesting to witness something from the past, an old way of life in these parts.  The rest of the Napoleon Route was an easy cruise, taking our time and admiring everything around us.  We arrived in Grenoble around 18H00 and went to see Audrey's brother, Geoffrey and his girlfriend, Fanny.  We stayed here for a couple of days, enough for Audrey to get the gos about there lives and more immportantly, about the future neice that Audrey will get in September.  There both look very happy about the impending bubs.
We leave Grenoble late in the afternoon, right about the time the poor chap just down the road was horribily murdered in a suspected terriost attack.  The world .....
